Short break guest at the Puffing Billy Festival coconut shy

Alan Shearer Centre guests took a step back in time this weekend when they visited the Puffing Billy Festival at Newburn.

And two residents got right into the spirit of the Georgian themed activities when they won coconuts from a shy during the event at the Tyne Riverside Country Park.

The six adults enjoyed the festival of crafts, fashions and games which was organised by the local community, and supported by Beamish museum, to celebrate 200 years since the birth of the steam locomotives that transported coal from Wylam Colliery to Lemington Staiths.

"We saw the Puffing Billy replica then the group went for a walk along the river and had a go on the equipment at the outdoor gym," said Carol Harrison, Alan Shearer Short Break Centre manager.

After the pleasure of taking part in some old fashioned entertainment the group finished off the day with a very modern treat – a trip to McDonald's.
