Alan Shearer Centre toasts fundraiser!

06 November 2013

Keith Harbottle Our guy, Action Man Keith Harbottle, rocketed into the Alan Shearer Centre this week, raising a scorching £4,000 for the charity.

The super fit fundraiser, completed a gruelling 29-mile run from Otterburn to the centre in West Denton in fancy dress as members and guests began bonfire night celebrations. Partygoers gave Keith a warm welcome as he zoomed into the centre wearing a patterned shirt and bright orange wig - an outfit, perhaps, more suited to a Guy Fawkes dummy?!

The epic run was the sixth challenge set this year by the police officer and former Royal Marine to raise funds for the Alan Shearer Foundation. The herculean tasks, under the fundraising banner Action4Smiles, began in April with the Sunderland marathon, followed in the summer by a Coast 2 Coast cycle ride in a day, 104 miles of the Cyclone bike ride, a fancy dress wheelbarrow push from Ponteland to Newcastle and the Kielder Marathon, before this final feat on November 5.

"It was great that there were so many people at the Alan Shearer Centre bonfire night party to welcome Keith after his run and to show what all his hard work has been for," said Nicola Milne, the Foundation's Operations Manager.

"We are really grateful to Keith for his amazing stamina and thank everyone who has donated and supported him throughout his challenges this year," she said.
