Tracie hits the fundraising trail in memory of Dan

February 2013

Part of the Inca Trail through the Andes

Tracie Pattinson from Fenham in Newcastle will go to the ends of the earth to support the Alan Shearer Foundation …almost. Certainly as far as Peru to walk the Inca Trail; 26 miles of mountains, jungle, cloud-forest and mysterious Inca ruins.

Tracie was a friend of Dan Gallagher, a member of the Alan Shearer Activity Centre and a regular Short Break guest. Sadly, Dan passed away last year, which prompted Tracie to use her trip to Peru as a fundraising opportunity for the Centre he had enjoyed so much.

Tracie's efforts are being supported by her employers, Santander, who have promised to double her donation by matching every penny she raises.

Alan's Foundation was launched last year specifically to fund the Centre's free activities and to offer free extra nights to eligible Short Break guests. Centre manager, Jackie Dunn says, "Our Short Break staff have fond memories of Dan and we are delighted that Tracie is doing this in his memory. We hope she will have lots of support for her trek."

The sponsored walk will take eight days; from 26 April to 3 May this year and Tracie is appealing for as many people as possible to pledge their support before she sets off.
