Sir Bobby's birthday gift to the Alan Shearer Foundation

June 2013

The final sum raised from the 'Sir Bobby Robson – A Celebration' held last February, on what would have been Sir Bobby Robson's 80th birthday, has just been announced today!

A total of £80,000 has been raised from the evening and subsequent fundraising. The Alan Shearer Foundation was chosen alongside the Sir Bobby Robson Foundation to receive a joint share of the evening's proceeds.

This very special occasion was held at The Sage Gateshead where invited guests gathered for an evening of star-studded music, comedy and reminiscence in celebration of Sir Bobby's wonderful life and footballing achievements, whilst raising money to support the two charities. The highlights of the evening have now been included in a brand new DVD called Another (K)Night to Remember and you can catch a preview here.

Our share of the proceeds will go directly to support the charity's Alan Shearer Foundation, helping the thousands of disabled adults and children that use our Alan Shearer Centre from across the region every year.

Moira Ashman, Deputy Chief Executive of St Cuthberts Care said, "Sir Bobby was a patron of St Cuthberts Care for many years, up until his death, and it's fantastic to know that his legacy lives on in supporting causes that were very dear to him."

"This is a tremendous boost for the Alan Shearer Foundation. I saw first-hand how much work the event team put into this evening, and thank everyone for their contribution, but particularly Lady Elsie and the Sir Bobby Robson Foundation for choosing to share this memorable evening with us."

We need to raise at least £250,000 every year to enable The Alan Shearer Foundation to maintain free access to the specialised leisure facilities at the Alan Shearer Activity Centre, provide a number of free short breaks at the Alan Shearer Short Break Centre and help towards expansion of the charity's disability provision.
