Asda community tokens are converted to cash for the Foundation

1 August 2013

Green, plastic, supermarket tokens have been turned to gold for The Alan Shearer Foundation.

Shoppers at Asda in Lemington have been posting tokens given to them at the checkout to vote the Foundation the winner of a £100 donation by the store.

The store's Community Life Champion, Bernadette Clark came to the Alan Shearer Centre to meet some of the users and to present the donation to the Alan Shearer Centre Services Manager, Jackie Dunn.

“We’re very grateful to Asda for nominating the Foundation for their community funding awards and many thanks to all the shoppers who used their tokens to vote us the winner of £100,” said Jackie.

“Money donated to the Foundation is used enable us to continue to offer our members free use of the sensory facilities at the Alan Shearer Centre and to help us provide a number of free and subsidised short breaks for profoundly disabled children and adults.”
