Spectators get a close-up view of the Red Arrows

Newcastle Airport’s private jet facility opened its grounds to spectators at the weekend for its inaugural Community Day, raising funds for its adopted charity, the Alan Shearer Foundation.

Hundreds of ‘plane spotters had fantastic close up views of aircraft taking off from the airport on Saturday to perform at the Sunderland Airshow when Samson Aviation hosted the open day.

It was perfect weather for the spectators who enjoyed refreshments organised by the airport as they watched all shapes and sizes of aircraft including a Lancaster bomber, Lynx helicopter, Typhoon and the famous Red Arrows team head for the airshow.

A group of regular visitors to the Alan Shearer Centre also came for a day out at the airport field and were thrilled to meet some of the pilots when they came out to talk to the crowd.

All proceeds from the Community Day and the Grand Raffle will be donated to the Foundation. The list of winning ticket numbers can be found here. Carparking ticket number 42 won the trial flying lesson and simulator ride donated by Northumbria Flying School.
