Partygoers at the Alan Shearer Centre summer disco

Partygoers enjoyed a "fantastic evening" of singing and disco dancing at the Alan Shearer Centre last week.

Recreation assistant, Christine Dixon, reported that guests were greeted on the terrace and served with canap├ęs and a fruit cocktail drink before taking to the dance floor at the adult-only event.

"We had some new members who came along in a group and thoroughly enjoyed all the dancing," said Christine. "Jimmy Smith, in particular gave a Michael Jackson rendition showing off his moves to Thriller and Billy Jean."

After working up a hearty appetite members enjoyed an "amazing buffet". The most popular servings were the jam and cream scones and delicious fairy cakes which were presented to each table on a cake tier stand.

"The evening finished in rip-roaring style with everyone joining in the singing and dancing to New York, New York and then a final song I IDid It My Way in which Sue Richards gave a fantastic vocal with our DJ, " said Christine, "She said it was her favourite song and was a fitting way to end what had been a great night."

The next event specifically for adult members of the Centre is a cheese and wine tasting session on Tuesday 19 August at 1pm. Call the Centre on 0191 267 8118 to book your place.
