Alan Shearer at ASAC Christmas party

This year's children's Christmas party at the Alan Shearer Activity Centre kicked off with a very special rendition of the festive favourite, Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer, performed by the football star himself.

In true festive spirit, Alan was encouraged to don furry antlers along with St Cuthberts Care's Chief Executive, Moira Ashman, and sing the classic for the disabled children at the party.

Pupils from Gibside and Hadrian Schools as well as toddlers and other Alan Shearer Centre members were invited to the special event which included a visit from Santa Claus and his reindeer, face painting, balloon modelling, games and lots more.

Marks and Spencer in Kingston Park had earlier stepped in to save the day when there was a hold up with the party food order.

"The shop said there had been a problem with our delivery so they assigned me a personal shopper to pack the food then helped me to load up the car," said catering manager, Fiona Nisbet. "Then when they found out it was for the Alan Shearer Centre children's party they gave it to us free of charge. It was a fantastic gesture."

It's the turn of disabled adults to enjoy their Christmas party at the Centre this evening, Thursday, 18 December.
