Sunshine brings everyone into the garden

Visitors have been making the most of the spring sunshine this week at the Alan Shearer Centre.

Disabled adults held one of their Live and Learn sessions outside on the patio to enjoy the sun and practice some decoupage papercraft.

Meanwhile, a group of volunteers from the Department of Work and Pensions had little time for sunbathing as they were helping the Centre's gardener, Sean Hudson, to tackle weeds and tidy up in the sensory garden.

Our extensive grounds are fully accessible including our woodland area and bird hide and, after our volunteers' hard work, the gardens are now bursting into life. The Centre is open on Saturday and this Bank Holiday Monday – an ideal time to explore or have a gentle stroll around the grounds and maybe stop for refreshments in Browne's Café. For information call the Centre on 0191 267 8118.

For details about volunteering see our web page or call our volunteer coordinator, Nicola Milne, on 0191 228 0111.
