Scales and tails animal menagerie come to the Alan Shearer Centre

From animal encounters to pirates and princesses, soccer celebrations to stars and stripes, there is something to entertain everyone at the Alan Shearer Centre soon.

The Scales 'n' Tails travelling zoo is back by popular demand on Saturday 28 June, between noon and 1pm, when visitors will have the chance to see, and even hold, creatures including huge insects, friendly reptiles and furry mammals.

In July we will be celebrating American Independence Day with some US-themed meals in Browne's Café followed by a very British event on Saturday 5 July when the Wimbledon championships will be marked with our own mini tournaments and tennis-inspired activities.

With major summer sporting events in mind, the Alan Shearer Centre will have a World Cup wind-up week with organised games and pursuits with a football feel from Monday 7 to Friday 11 July.

Hoist the jolly roger or put on your tiara and head down to the centre for a fancy dress Pirates and Princesses party on Saturday 26 July when there will be a disco in the marquee with games and a buffet from noon until 2pm.

We are rounding off the month with Junior Jhoom, a Bollywood style dance and movement session for children on Monday 28 July between 1pm and 2pm.

Booking is essential for all of our events which are free to our disabled members and their families. Call the centre on 0191 267 8118 to reserve a place or see our Summer Fun for Everyone leaflet for more details.
