Fundraising heavy weight Lyra Dust is hoping to smash through a ‘Boxathon' challenge this weekend in aid of the Alan Shearer Foundation.

The ‘Boxathon' is a gruelling 24hour event being held at Fit Club Newcastle where entrants will move in a circuit, working out for half an hour then breaking for half an hour. Lyra estimates that every half an hour sees you burn 300 calories. She explains that the rest period can be the hardest thing to cope with;

“As each rest is only half an hour, it's difficult to fully recover before you have to go hard at it again. To keep that up for 24horus will be really tough”

Lyra has been training hard and is hopeful that the event will be a total knockout but an injury to her hand did set her back. “I was at a real low, but with encouragement from my coach Clive Gibson at F.I.T Club Commando Boxing I continued training with one arm” our fundraising fighter refused to throw in the towel; “I am still unable to use one of my hands to train so I will be doing the whole event with just one arm!”

Although Lyra's injury is temporary, this was one of the main reasons she started looking at fundraising for the Alan Shearer Foundation;

“My injury was a real trial for me and made me become far more aware of the difficulties faced when you have a disability. I am proud to be raising money for the Alan Shearer Foundation which supports such a fantastic specialist disability Centre in Newcastle. I really wanted the money I raise to go to a local cause and this seemed like the perfect thing.”

We wish Lyra the best of luck for Saturday and we hope she's still standing at the final bell!
