Volunteer helping with a reminiscence session in our nursing home

St Cuthberts Care was delighted to receive an invitation to the launch of the Pope John Paul II Awards in our Diocese yesterday.

Charity Chief Executive, Moira Ashman, commented: “It was truly inspiring to know that so many young people are making the commitment to put their Faith into Action.
“As a charity of action, we have encouraged young people to develop their social awareness through our work for many years now and have had the benefit of hundreds of sixth-form students volunteering their time in our services. I believe The Pope John Paul II Awards are a great way for young people to demonstrate their concern and compassion for those less fortunate than themselves, and I would urge all eligible young people to sign-up.”

Over the past four years, St Cuthberts Care has run a Young Social Entrepreneur (YSE) Competition, enabling sixth-form students throughout our diocese to raise funds for the Alan Shearer Centre; the charity's specialist provision for people with sensory impairments and profound disabilities. In addition, many students have chosen not to fundraise, but to volunteer their time in our nursing homes.

St Cuthberts Care will offer as much support as possible to allow young people an opportunity to undertake their volunteering time in our services. We are always keen to engage young people with our work and would be happy to liaise with the Award Leaders to ensure volunteer work fits all criteria.
