Activity Centre members bring the garden indoors

Activity Centre members with their mural in the cafe

Staff at the Alan Shearer Activity Centre have decided to invite some of the members to put their artistic talents to good use.

Work on the new hydrotherapy suite is now cracking-on apace, behind a temporary wall erected in Browne's Café and it seemed a shame not to make use of the large blank “canvas” it offered.

So regulars from the Centre's Live and Learn group set to work on a special mural, inspired by the garden and grounds. The centrepiece is the huge beech tree that stands outside the front door. Surrounded by spring flowers, it is being visited by a couple of the squirrels that are often to be seen running around the garden.

Catering Manager, Fiona Nisbet, said, “ They have done a fantastic job. It really is a feature of the café now and it's just a pity that it's only temporary.”

Live and Learn skills sessions for adults with learning disabilities are held from Tuesday to Friday every week – find out more.
