Enjoying the new playground

The wraps are off the Alan Shearer Centre's new, wheelchair accessible playground - part of a major revamp at the Centre.

The playground now features a new swinging platform, specifically designed for wheelchair users, which enables them to swing themselves by simply pulling a rope. The new roundabout has a special section for chairs but can also be used standing or sitting; and there's a sit and spin “bowl” if you're not too giddy to try it.

Centre Manager, Amanda Head said, ”The playground has always been popular with our members and with Short Break Centre guests, who have full access to our facilities during their stay. I'm sure they will love the extra measure of independence the new equipment offers them.”

Work is well under way inside the Centre too, with the Hydrotherapy Suite now demolished to make way for an exciting new facility. It's scheduled to open at the end of May so we'll keep you posted on progress!
