A short break guest and staff member hold a snake

Disabled youngsters staying at our Alan Shearer Short Break Centre were able to find out what it's like to look after a variety of animals when they took a trip around Kirkley Hall Zoo recently.

During their stay, our Short Break guests meet to choose their favourite places to visit and, on this occasion, Kirkley Hall Zoo came top of the list.

Rabbits, a peacock and an aquarium full of fish made for lots of smiles and laughter and a few brave youngsters even got up close and personal with one of the zoo's snakes.

After their mini safari hands were thoroughly washed before everyone piled into the zoo café for lunch.

"I really enjoyed my day out!" said Short Break guest, Owen.
