Owen's great day out!

Owen in the Centre for Life lab

Test tubes, petri dishes and microscopes gave one of our short break guests a taste of what it's like to work as a scientist when he visited Newcastle's Centre for Life recently.

With the help of staff, Owen had chosen the place he wanted to visit most and planned the entire visit - including how to get there by public transport.

Heading straight for the lab when he arrived, Owen looked every inch the expert as he was supported by staff to follow a computer programme which enabled him to learn about the discovery of human DNA. But it wasn't all work and no play!

Owen couldn't wait to hang up his lab coat and head for the 4D motion ride which took him on an exciting virtual journey with SpongeBob SquarePants in The Great Jelly Rescue.

Even after the watery escapade, Owen still had the energy to investigate more and spent time with staff in the Robots exhibition, too.

"I had a great day!" said Owen. "I think the 4D ride was my favourite."
