Short Breaks

Our Short Break Centre is part of the Alan Shearer Centre and is set in over an acre of stunning, accessible grounds which include a sensory garden, woodland walk and specially adapted play area. The Centre provides specialist respite care for children and adults with physical and learning disabilities.

About our centre

Our breaks are expertly arranged to meet individual needs and preferences, offering complete peace of mind to parents and carers and assuring the comfort and enjoyment of our guests. We offer everything from an overnight stay or weekend break to longer holidays and our expert staff provide professional support for adults and children with even the most complex needs.

Guests have their own, spacious, private rooms and are encouraged to bring their favourite small items and bedding to help create familiarity, which is often a key to feeling settled and content. A number of our guests' rooms have specialist beds, including Caldy Cot, and overhead tracking and hoists are available to offer greater freedom of movement for those who are less mobile.

Our specially adapted bathrooms and wet rooms include soothing, sensory baths, making bathing a pleasant and sometimes sought-after experience.

Each guest has their own personal Keyworker and strong bonds can develop with regular visits, creating an extended family feel.

Unique to the Short Break Centre is the full, free access our guests have to the on-site Alan Shearer Activity Centre. This remarkable, specialist centre offers an irresistible range of fun, stimulating and relaxing experiences including a luxurious hydrotherapy pool, a range of sensory rooms, creative music room and giant ball pool. Social events and outings are regularly available for our more outgoing guests.
