Activity Centre

Dear Friends

It has been many weeks since we heard the joy and laughter of you all at the Alan Shearer Centre, but it is our top priority to keep you, our staff and the wider community safe. We appreciate this will be a very difficult time for you and your family without the freedom our Centre brings and hope you are all staying safe.

We are uncertain when we will be able to re-open, but invite you to follow us on Facebook to join in our interactive games and activities.

We hope to see you all again soon.

Our Alan Shearer Activity Centre is a specialist recreational, sensory and social centre for disabled people of all ages and caters to a wide spectrum of need. Funded entirely by The Alan Shearer Foundation, all of our activities are completely free of charge for disabled children and adults, their families, friends, schools and groups.

Using the Centre

Our Activity Centre is specifically designed for people with a disability and has a range of specialist equipment including overhead tracking and hoists, to give full access to all areas for those with limited mobility.

To use our facilities, you must first become a member. Membership is free, and can be done simply by downloading and completing our application form. If you prefer, you can request a membership form by ringing the centre, or collect one from our staff at reception.

Once your membership is complete, you can begin enjoying everything the centre has to offer – although we do ask that you book your sessions in advance.

Your Alan Shearer Activity Centre membership gives you free use of our:

Creative sound & music room
Gardens and grounds
Sensory cave
Sensory rooms
Browne's Café

Live & Learn

Live & Learn is our fun, educational and social series of informal events, classes and courses for adults with learning disabilities. Entirely free of charge, we offer arts and crafts on Tuesdays from 11 am till 1pm and our ever-popular cookery sessions on Thursdays from 12 noon till 2pm.

Come along and enjoy seasonal crafts and social events ranging from pastimes and performances to dinners and discos. There’s always something exciting to do – whether it’s learning new skills or enjoying organised activities with friends.
