How much work was involved in putting up your Christmas tree this year? See if you can match this Herculean task at our Alan Shearer Centre.
When Newcastle United fan, David Hillcox, found out his friend and neighbour was about to remove a 16 feet Christmas tree growing in his garden, the first thing that sprung to mind was how much joy it would bring to people who benefit from our Alan Shearer Centre.
With great friends just a phone call away, he wasn’t in the least bit daunted by the prospect of transporting it from Whickham to the Centre in Newcastle.
And they didn’t let him down. One provided a low loader van, others helped get the massive tree onto the van and one even designed and welded a bespoke sturdy stand to make sure the tree stood tall and proud at the entrance to our Centre.
“The tree had outgrown the garden, unfortunately, and had to be removed,” said David, “but I didn’t want it to go to waste. I contacted the Centre and was delighted to be able to deliver it personally with some of the friends who had helped to make it all possible.”
“People visiting the Centre over the festive period have told us how much they’ve loved the twinkling tree,” said Centre Manager, Jackie. “It has provided a seasonal sensory experience for so many of our members and guests and we’d like to say a massive thank you to David and his friends for their incredible generosity.”
What a perfect example of kindness to start 2023.
