DWP staff get digging

May 2012

Staff from the Department of Work and Pensions swapped desk work for gardening work this week to help develop the gardens at the Alan Shearer Activity Centre.

The ten volunteers enjoyed a hot and sunny, if somewhat back-breaking day, transferring the garden's growing compost pile to a more secluded part of the site.

Following on from their hard day's work the volunteers were given a tour of the Activity Centre's facilities by Centre Manager Maxine Pearson.

"They had a fantastic day, worked very hard and gained free sun tans as well," said Maxine. "I certainly think they enjoyed not being cooped up in the office all day and they're looking forward to helping out again which is great news."
