An appeal for green-fingered volunteers

March 2012

Activity Centre gardener, Martin Broomfield is appealing for volunteers to help develop our new market garden site.

The project will produce vegetables for use in the Centre's kitchen, with any excess being distributed locally to people in need via St Cuthberts Care's 5p Bus. Work has fallen behind schedule slightly because the garden is on top of the Vallum - part of Hadrian's Wall, which runs under the Centre's grounds. Permission had to be obtained before digging could begin. Now, with the growing season under way, Martin is tackling the field with a Rotavator - then he will need as much help as he can get with planting and cultivation.

So if you want some healthy outdoor exercise, get in touch with Nicola Milne at St Cuthberts Care's head office on 0191 228 0111, or visit our volunteers page.
