£135,000 raised at the Alan Shearer Foundation Ball with a
Ronan Keating Surprise Performance!

December 2012

We are delighted to announce that our very first Alan Shearer Foundation Ball was held on Friday 30 November with guests from around the North East enjoying a glittering and magic-filled champagne reception and a five-course dinner with midnight feasts, at the Hilton Hotel in Gateshead, Newcastle. Hosted by Alan Shearer and ably assisted by charity Patron, Mike Browne as our very own Compere Extraordinaire, our guests were thrilled with the entertainment. 2009 X-Factor Winner and Popstar to Operastar Joe McElderry sang Nessun Dorma to a spellbound audience and a special guest appearance by International Superstar Ronan Keating, sang his hits late into the night. This glamorous evening menu, wowed guests from the moment they arrived until close at 2am, following dancing to the fabulous Paul James Band.

In total we raised an incredible £135,000 from the Foundation's inaugural Ball, through ticket sales, a 'money can't buy' auction, an hilarious interactive music raffle game which saw guests dancing on stage in fancy dress outfits, and a silent auction. An additional raffle for an exclusive Hublot watch worth in the region of £10,000 also contributed to this amazing sum.

Alan Shearer quoted: "It is vital that we continue to support this invaluable service that the Foundation provides in our community, and I am absolutely delighted with the amount raised. The tables sold out very quickly and it really has exceeded our best expectations. Ronan flew over from Dublin as a surprise treat, delighting the audience along with Joe McElderry who sang Nessun Dorma. It was magical. As everyone knows the North East is incredibly important to me and to have such strong support across our region is simply brilliant. Thank you so much."

Ronan Keating quoted: "When Alan asked me to perform at the Alan Shearer Foundation Ball I jumped at the chance to help my good friend in any way that I could; the whole evening was spectacular and the atmosphere was electric."

Our Ball saw many of the region's leading businesses and influential individuals hosting tables. The Foundation's very first Annual Ball is being hailed an unrivalled success by our prestigious guests and Austin Donohoe, Chief Executive of St Cuthberts Care, said: "We are all so delighted with this unprecedented amount raised. There was a great deal of hard work behind the scenes and I would like to thank personally everyone who contributed. It is absolutely paramount that we continue to reach out to families across the whole of the North East, and the money raised at the Ball will help us to continue to achieve our purpose in giving both children and adults with disabilities opportunities that they would not ordinarily achieve if we were not able to give the free services offered by our facilities. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for the continued and on-going support."

The evening's theme was an abundance of lights, giant chandeliers, shadows, reflections and interactive sensory experiences, allowing guests to experience first-hand some of the fun equipment and projected light features we provide at the Alan Shearer Activity Centre. A range of sensory activities from the Centre were on show in the reception area, allowing guests an opportunity to purchase items.

We do not publicise our Ball but we invite businesses and individuals to attend that have already chosen to support the Foundation. If you would like to know how you can support the Foundation and be included within our exclusive guest list for 2013, please ring Moira Ashman, Deputy Chief Executive of St Cuthberts Care on 0191 228 8004 or email her at moira.ashman@stcuthbertscare.org.uk and she will be delighted to help.

This inaugural event is now firmly placed as the premier event in the North East's charity calendar and looks set to go from strength to strength. The Alan Shearer Foundation Ball is the second of three major events held across the year, and it enables the Alan Shearer Foundation to reach its target to ensure St Cuthberts Care can continue to provide specialist disability services to thousands of disabled people across the region. It is vital that this support is continued. Thank you.
