Young Social Entrepreneurs raise thousands for the Foundation

July 2012

The Young Social Entrepreneur of the Year competition organised by St Cuthberts Care has raised £17,700 for the Foundation thanks to the hard work and business skills of over 120 local sixth-form students.

The competition saw teams from 14 schools and sixth form colleges across the region compete to return a profit from the £250 seed money they were given in September, using their imagination and entrepreneurial talents.

The funds raised will help to meet one of the aims of the new Foundation: to provide free and subsidised respite care at the Alan Shearer Short Break Centre. Alan said: "This is a tremendous sum and it's wonderful to know that every penny will go towards the Foundation's overall target of helping to provide free and subsidised respite care at the Alan Shearer Short Break Centre."

Alan was on hand at the ceremony to present the awards and to meet the budding entrepreneurs.

Full details of the celebratory event and a list of each of the prize winners are available from the St Cuthberts Care website.

A new competition will be launched in September this year, with all proceeds going to The Alan Shearer Foundation. If you would like to take part or request more information contact Nicola Milne on 0191 228 0111 or email: nicola.milne@stcuthbertscare.org.uk
