A Junior Great North Runner has donated funds to the Alan Shearer Centre, recently promoted by his disabled nephew.

Mark Humphreys, aged 12, made £350 in sponsorship when he took part in the run to raise money for the centre, which is regularly attended by his one-year-old nephew Max Kaczmar. Max, who was born with brain defects, has been featured in the centre's information brochures and just last month his photo appeared on Twitter being held in the arms of Alan Shearer.

Mark came to the centre at the weekend with his family to receive a certificate of thanks from Foundation Operations Manager, Nicola Milne.

"This is a great achievement," said Nicola. "Mark even spoke at his local church, St Paul's in Alnwick, to help boost his cause. With Gift Aid he will have raised £437.50 for the centre."
