Zip slidin' away for the Foundation

Four zip sliders

Five people jumped off the Tyne Bridge this weekend ... for a great cause!

The Alan Shearer Foundation's five brave recruits stepped out into mid air, harnessed to a wire, to zip slide from the bridge on the Newcastle side of the river to the HMS Calliope building on the Gateshead bank to raise nearly £1,000 for the charity. The fearless five were Louise Brumwell,  Richard Hunter, Will Elliott, Dave Dixon and Cerys Walker, some of whom are parents of children who use the Alan Shearer Centre's specialist facilities.

Witnessing the super act of bravery the Foundation's Operations Manager, Nicola Milne said: "They all seemed to enjoy it - in fact they said that they wanted to do it again! It's great that families who use the Centre are helping to fundraise like this."

After the exhilaration of the zip slide Cerys later posted on Facebook: "Enjoyed my zip line jump this morning raising money for Alan Shearer Centre, St Cuthberts Care!"

There will be another opportunity for volunteers to test their mettle on a zip slide in the New Year. For more information on this and other fundraising opportunities for the Foundation please contact Nicola on 0191 228 0111 or email
