Volunteers get packing

July 2013

Generous shoppers have donated nearly £800 in spare change in the Alan Shearer Foundation's first ever charity bag pack.

A team of 22 volunteers filled shoppers' bags at Morrison's in Byker on Sunday 21 July for donations to the Foundation.

"We're really grateful to everyone who volunteered their time to take part in the bag pack, to the staff at the store who made us welcome, and to all the shoppers who donated their cash," said Adele Southern, St Cuthberts Care Marketing Executive.

"This is the first time the charity has had a bag pack and we never expected to raise as much as £788.23."

All the money raised will go towards the Foundation's target to raise £250,000 per year to enable us to ensure the facilities at the Alan Shearer Activity Centre remain free of charge and to allow us to support free and subsidised respite care at the Alan Shearer Short Break Centre.

A second bag pack is already planned this month, when shoppers at ASDA, Gosforth will be helped with their shopping by Foundation volunteers on Sunday 28 July.
