The fundraisers on their way to St James' Park

"Keep up the hard work!" was the message from Alan Shearer to Foundation fundraisers who have been pushing themselves to the limits this weekend.

Alan left the note at the Diamond Inn, Ponteland, on Saturday where four ex-marines were taking on the challenge of pushing each other in wheelbarrows from there to St James' Park, Newcastle.

Alan's message of support for fundraiser Keith Harbottle said: "Keith. Thanks for everything you are doing. Good luck to you and the lads for today …"

The team raised £1,500 through sponsorship and bucket collections at pubs en route to the Newcastle football stadium.

Meanwhile, five supporters on push bikes were making their way from Whitehaven in Cumbria to Tynemouth on the 145-mile C2C challenge.
"We all managed to complete the coast to coast however I think the recovery will take a few days longer! Everyone has very tired legs today," said organiser Paul Brown.

The five mates, who haven't ridden bikes in a decade, have so far raised over £2,600 with Gift Aid, for the Foundation.
