Charity supporter, Keith Harbottle, this week announced his team sheet for his "Ride to Rio" challenge for the Alan Shearer Foundation.

As the England football team kick off for their first World Cup game against Italy on Saturday 14 June, Keith and his team of 19 will be attempting to cycle the 6,000 mile distance from Newcastle to Rio in 24-hours on static bikes at the MetroCentre, Gateshead.

As they are all employees of Northumbria Police Keith's crack squad of men and women is set to be a formidable force!

"Each rider will need to complete 300 miles non-stop. This is an immense challenge of endurance - for the body and the mind," says Keith. "It's fair to say we are all ages, sizes and abilities. But all have much in common. Apart from tired legs, we are all passionate about raising as much cash as possible and are determined not to let the Foundation down."

Last year Keith, under the Action4Smiles banner, raised over £4,000 through a series of challenges to help the Foundation provide services and maintain facilities for disabled people and their families who use the Alan Shearer Centre.
