St Cuthberts Care Directors have been in London to hear calls to challenge politicians on issues of social injustice.

St Cuthberts Care's Deputy Chief Executive, Sheila Errington, and Director of Finance, Nic Gilbert, attended a Parliamentary reception at the House of Commons where the Secretary of State for Communities and Local Government, Eric Pickles, welcomed input from the third sector and encouraged charities to lobby for support.

The event, attended by MPs and Peers, was organised by Caritas Social Action Network (CSAN) the domestic social action arm of the Catholic Church, which comprises 42 Catholic charities operating across England and Wales.

Addressing the Parliamentary reception Catholic Church leader, Cardinal Vincent Nichols, praised the hands-on approach and the "extraordinary work" of the CSAN charities, like St Cuthberts Care, who transform the lives of thousands of people.

“What is crucial in our times is the question of what kind of society we want to build. Many are uncertain. Many are fearful. We are not. We know. We are committed to our task”, he said.
