The Alan Shearer Centre "sets a benchmark that others should aim for", according to comments in a report by the Care Quality Commission.

The watchdog body's latest inspection report features "very positive feedback" from parents whose children use the Short Break and Residential facilities at the centre.

"We've been very impressed and feel like we've hit the jackpot with this place," said one couple, while others are reported as saying: "The staff are dedicated in what they do. Everyone can improve, but I honestly can't think of anything they could do better."

The Care Quality Commission's routine inspection covered areas including the care and welfare of people using the services, record management and quality assessment. The Centre was deemed to meet all the standards set by the regulator.

Service manager, Jackie Dunn, said she was delighted with the inspection report findings.

"We always strive to comply with the government standards, but also have procedures in place to enable us to go over and above which make our guests feel welcome and their relatives relaxed and comfortable in leaving their loved ones in our care," said Jackie.

Levels and quality of staff support were particularly highlighted in the report published this week. Comments from relatives included: "The staff are just amazing," and "They have real compassion".
