A race of two sons!

Brother's Tim and Andy Baggot who will be doing the GNR together

Brothers Tim and Andy Baggott are part of the Alan Shearer Foundation Great North Run 2015 squad. We caught up with Tim to find out if they are on track for success.

For this duo their Great North Run day will be that little bit different to most. Andy is disabled and Tim is taking on the mighty feat pounding the tarmac 13.1 miles from Newcastle to South Shields pushing Andy the whole way in his wheel chair.

Tim has never taken part in the Great North Run before however 25 years ago Andy took part in the iconic race being pushed by Bill, a family friend of theirs. Tim says “It was an amazing (if exhausting) experience for both of them!” Bill has now passed away and so the brothers are looking forward to taking part this year in memory of him.

For Tim, the Alan Shearer Foundation was a clear choice when deciding who to fundraise for; “My brother Andy has used the Alan Shearer Centre and the facilities are fantastic. Andy is also a massive Newcastle United fan and so the connection with the Foundation seemed perfect.”

Tim is a keen runner and has started his training; already completing a half marathon in the German Alps. However running whilst pushing a wheel chair will be a real challenge; “If I was taking part by myself I would be hoping to do it sub 2 hours, however I think pushing the chair will be tough and I'm just hoping that we both make it round!” Tim spends most of his time in Germany and so practice with his brother for the big day will be limited; they are both hoping the atmosphere on the day will help to carry them around. “When Andy last took part he that the most wonderful time and really thrived on the positive energy that is so special to events like the Great North Run. I am hoping that he will once again get great enjoyment out of it, I'm sure it will be a really special day for us both.”

The pair has already had some fantastic support from friends and family so they should be well on track to raise their joint target of £500. If you would like to support the brothers in their journey please do visit their sponsor page on BT my donate: https://mydonate.bt.com/fundraisers/timbaggott1
